Posted by Jonathan On May - 25 - 2009

ronjeremyThe porn legend reveals the parts of him you never saw…

1. Ghostbusters (1984)

“I was the janitor of the firehouse where the whole thing takes place. I get slimed! A lot of magazines all over the world printed the scene where I’m looking up in the air when the slime comes down. I loved getting slimed! I spent a couple of days on it with Bill Murray and the whole cast. They all knew who I was. Read the rest of this entry »

Jessica Biel: Easy Virtue

Posted by Jonathan On April - 4 - 2009

easyvirtue1Screaming in bloody-rinsed slashers, witty in drawing-room comedy and stripping for Powder Blue…

Does Easy Virtue mean you’re a fan of witty English comedies?

I do really like that kind of machinegun fire dialogue. Although sometimes I can’t understand it. There a few scenes in Atonement where I was like, ‘Wait wait wait… Rewind…’ It wasn’t even the accent, it’s like a mumbling quality. I sometimes put the subtitles on! Read the rest of this entry »

Ryan Reynolds: Wolverine

Posted by Jonathan On April - 3 - 2009

ryanreynoldsSuper healing, adamantium and brute strength. Sound familiar? Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool, Wolverine’s ultimate nemesis and X-Men Origins’ coolest new mutant…

Comic-book fans are fat. They don’t get up at 6am for a punishing daily regime of ab crunches and bench presses. They can’t swing two swords with surgical precision. They’re not married to Scarlett Johansson. Someone forget to tell Ryan Reynolds. Read the rest of this entry »

nfrost1Soaring from Spaced to Spielberg: on board with the star of The Boat That Rocked and Tintin…

What are you up to in The Boat That Rocked?

Well, I play the part of Dr Dave. He’s not a doctor. He’s a DJ. And he doesn’t have a surname. Maybe Dave is his surname. He’s a bit of a north-sea swordsman, so to speak. Read the rest of this entry »

Pascal Laugier: My Top 5 Horrors

exorcistMartyrs writer/director Pascal Laugier picks his five favourite scare-flicks…

1. The Exorcist (1973)

“It’s not very original, but I still can’t believe my eyes. I’m still totally frightened by the intensity of the film. The way it makes documentary of the Grand Guignol elements. The censors at the time said there was something nasty, something corrupt, in the entire film negative itself – and I think they’re right.” Read the rest of this entry »

Danny Boyle: Slumdog Millionaire

boyleBrit director Danny Boyle chats about his Oscar-hauling triumph…

Slumdog Millionaire cleaned up at the Oscars. Are awards important to you?

Well… Anybody who tells you they don’t dream about that stuff is lying. Because everybody does. It’s great for all of us, ego-wise. But more importantly, it’s wonderful for the film. Read the rest of this entry »

Jennifer Lynch: Surveillance

Posted by Jonathan On March - 1 - 2009

jenlynchMeeting the daughter of darkness at Cannes 2008…

What’s your favourite film?

I’m gonna have to go ahead and list Blue Velvet as one of them. I’m going to also list Rear Window and Sunset Boulevard. Sunset Boulevard blew my mind as a kid. I was eight maybe. I mean, it was sort of a discovery. It was like uncovering a brilliant novel or a dirty book in a trunk. I didn’t know you could tell a story in that way. That swung the doors open for me. Charlize Theron: The Burning Plain

CharlizeChatting with the Oscar-winning star of The Burning Plain…

Do you ever get nervous in front of the camera?

Oh no, that’s what alcohol’s for. No, trust me, nothing gets you over your nerves. Even when you do nude scenes, it’s not something that’s easy because you’ve done it before. Acting means you have to put yourself to a vulnerable state.

So apart from alcohol, how do you beat your nerves?

Oh great, I can see that headline already! I don’t drink when I work! You’re stirring the pot… No, I think it’s tricky because I don’t know the real answer. I just know that I know how to do it. I have a real passion for human nature and how we survive. I’m just fascinated by it. Read the rest of this entry »

Spanish sun and Sapphic snogs… How Woody Allen cooked up his hottest ever rom-com.

Woody’s not here. Ten minutes pass. Woody’s still not here. Twenty minutes. “Woody’s having his pudding,” explains his agent, as we wait patiently. Thirty minutes. She adds seriously, “Woody does love his pudding…”

How big an influence was Sergio Leone? What are your other big influences?

I like Italian Westerns in general but it’s clear that Sergio Leone left a strong impression on me. I was inspired not only by Westerns but by films like Mad Max: Road Warrior, Ben-Hur, Bullitt, The Magnificent Seven, The Wild Bunch and Blade Runner. Read the rest of this entry »
