Simon Pegg: Nerd Do Well

Posted by Jonathan On October - 15 - 2010

Is there anything controversial in your new autobiography?

No, not really. I mean, there’s whole thing about Meredith Catsanus… I’m sure that particular girl wouldn’t have minded me telling the story.

Go on…

I kind of say, ‘This isn’t going to be a tell-all. I’m not going to talk about my first sexual experience.’ But then I do, about touching this girl’s boobs. And I didn’t want to name her. I do name a lot of friends from childhood – because I didn’t touch their boobs. Read the rest of this entry »

Gemma Arterton: Prince Of Persia

Posted by Jonathan On September - 10 - 2010

Reviews for Prince Of Persia and Clash Of The Titans weren’t great. How do you feel when that happens?

The worst thing is when you’re in stonkingly bad flops and they’re all in the same year and you think, ‘Oh well, that’s my career over.’ You never know.

How come you’re in so many movies this year?

It’s just sort of worked out that way, even though we finished Prince Of Persia in 2008. Someone said to me the other day, ‘Oh my God, you’re everywhere!’ And I just thought, ‘I don’t want this!’ Read the rest of this entry »

Leonardo DiCaprio: Inception

Posted by Jonathan On July - 27 - 2010

Do you like to be called Leo or Leonardo?

Either one is fine. Leo is probably the only nickname I’ve had. Most people call me Leo.

Didn’t they try to make you change your name?

Yeah, there when I was 11 years old when I first wanted to be an actor professionally. We went to an agent and they wanted to change my name to Lenny Williams. Read the rest of this entry »

Olga Kurylenko: Centurion

Posted by Jonathan On March - 25 - 2010

How many Bond girls write letters to Lars von Trier? Only one. Only the best one, apparently. “Oh, I’ve been tracking him,” laughs Olga Kurylenko, mischievously. And what exactly did she write to the bad-boy Danish depressive? “I can’t say… But I did get an answer,” she smiles. Von Trier sent her a photo of himself. He’d signed it, ‘To the best Bond babe.’ “That picture is on my wall,” says Kurylenko. “He must work with me. He doesn’t know what he missing out on…” Read the rest of this entry »

Benicio del Toro: The Wolfman

Posted by Jonathan On February - 18 - 2010

benicio_del_toroIt’s your birthday tomorrow, right?

That’s right. I’ll be 43.

How does that feel?

Couldn’t tell the difference.

Aren’t you going to celebrate?

I’m not too keen on birthdays. Never was when I was a kid. I always got shy about that cake and the candles. Read the rest of this entry »

30 Blu-rays You Must Own

Posted by Jonathan On December - 9 - 2009

planetearth1. Planet Earth
Shot on HD cameras and a £16 million budget, David Attenborough’s nature mega-doc might be Blu-ray’s most breathtaking visual experience: every colour, every hair, every tiny air-bubble and fish-scale leaps off the screen and hits your retinas like a drug.

2. Iron Man
Impossible to see where the CG starts and the live-action footage ends on Iron’s Man’s HD transfer. But it’s the lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio that really amazes: skip to Tony Stark’s first flight and feel your surround-sound ripple. Read the rest of this entry »

The Coen brothers: A Serious Man

Posted by Jonathan On December - 6 - 2009

coensJoel is taller, wears dark suits. Ethan is shorter, dresses down. Joel looks over to your left shoulder while he’s talking. Ethan looks over to your right shoulder. Sometimes they’ll interrupt each other. Sometimes they’ll finish each other’s sentences. They’re, y’know, kinda funny lookin’. No one really understands the Coen brothers or their movies. But everyone loves them. Their latest movie is called A Serious Man. It’s about… well, try asking them. Read the rest of this entry »

Film review: Star Trek

Posted by Jonathan On May - 6 - 2009

spock-kirkCorkscrewing past space debris, phaser fire and blazing Starships, that very first camera-shot sends us hurtling headfirst into JJ Abram’s rebooted Star Trek universe – just minutes before baby James Tiberious Kirk does too. Blasted out of the womb, blasted out in an escape pod, Kirk will never meet his father, who singlehandedly crash-courses the decimated Starship Kelvin into its Romulan attackers to save his newborn son. Film review: Star Wars

Posted by Jonathan On April - 14 - 2009

starwars“I’ve made a Walt Disney movie. A cross between Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. It’s gonna do eight, maybe 10 million.” George Lucas was wrong about a lot things. That Star Wars might work if Luke Skywalker and his aunt and uncle were dwarves. Or that the entire cast should be oriental. Read the rest of this entry »
